Terukuni Downed On 14th Day; Akinoumi Bows To Maedayama

Final Day Today

    Futabayama assured for himself another tournament victory and the distinction of being the topnotch wrestler in sumodom, by turning aside the desperate bid made by Terukuni, "yokozuna" and vice captain of the East team, on the 14th day of the current spring main tourney at the Kokugikan, Ryogoku, Tokyo on January 23.
    Grappling amid an excited atmosphere that reigned the huge bowl, Futabayama defeated Terukuni by "yoritaoshi." Terukuni thus suffered his first defeat.
    Akinoumi, captain of the East team, suffered his second defeat, this time by Maedayama, veteran "ozeki."
    Haguroyama showed his prowess by beating the formidable Sagamigawa.
    The West team on that day outpointed the East team 12 to 8 to increase its lead by five points, 156 to 151.
