Harbinger of Sumo Season

    With the Spring Sumo Tourney just around the corner, the new rankings for this year were posted yesterday. Shown are a group of the hefty maulers at the Chika-no-ura room looking over the results as compiled by the higher-ups of Nippon’s sumodom.


List for Spring Tourney Is Issued; Annual Event to Open From January 10th

    Heralding the coming spring national sumo tournament, which begins from January 10, a new ranking of wrestlers for the tournament was announced today by the Dai Nippon Wrestling Association, reports Domei.
    In the new line-up, Akinoumi, “yokozuna” or champion, heads the East Team, which was the West Team in the last regular tournament. His teammates include Terukuni, also “yokozuna”, Dewaminato, “sekiwake” Toyoshima, “komusubi”, Sagamigawa, “haridashi komusubi” and others.
    On the other hand, the new West Team which was defeated in the last regular tournament is composed of Futabayama, “yokozuna”, Haguroyama, “yokozuna”, Maedayama, “ozeki”, Nayoroiwa, “haridashi ozeki”, Saganohana, “sekiwake”, Futasegawa “komusubi”, and other wrestlers.
    Owing to their retirement, the names of Ryogoku, Asahigawa, Komanosato, Katsuragawa, Kojimagawa and Ayakawa are missing from the new list.
