Osaka Tourney Is Brought To Close
Futabayama, "yokozuna" and captain of the East team,
won the individual title in the Osaka tourney of the Dai Nippon Professional
Sumo Association, by defeating Akinoumi, "yokozuna" and the captain of
the West team, on the final day of the 13 day tournament, October 19, at
the specially constructed sumo ring near Fukushima park. He won 12 out
of 13 matches in the series, losing only to Terukuni on the 12th day.
Akinoumi and Haguroyama, "yokozuna" and vice-captain
of the East team, also finished with 12 wins and one defeat, but Futabayama
became the individual champion as he ranked higher than Akinoumi and Haguroyama.

Haguroyama Also Topples On Tourney's 12th day

Futabayama and Haguroyama, "yokozuna" grapplers who
were both undefeated up to the 11th day in the current Osaka tourney of
the Dai Nippon Sumo Association, tasted their first defeats on the 12th
day of the tourney on Sunday, October 18, in the all "yokozuna" matches.
Futabayama suffered his defeat from Terukuni by
"tsuridashi," while Haguroyama lost to Akinoumi by "tsukidashi."
Thus Akinoumi was the only undefeated wrestler at
the end of the 12th day.
Kwansei Gakuin won the invitation intercollegiate
sumo tourney held on October 18 at the Fujidera ring on the Daitetsu line.
Eight schools in Kansai participated in the tourney.
Kwansei Gakuin won all its team matches to take
the championship. The individual title was won by Iguchi of the same school.
