Intercollegiate Sumo
1942 National Tourney Tokyo, Oct. 10-11
The 1942 All-Nippon Intercollegiate sumo tourney,
under the auspices of the Dai Nippon Students' Physical Promotion Society,
will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, at the sumo ring
in the outer garden of the Meiji Shrine.
Participating in the tourney are 28 schools, including
those of Tokyo, Kansai, Kyushu and Hokkaido.
Eight Teams will be chosen through three round preliminaries
and the championships will be contested by these eighth teams.
In an upset, plucky Kashimanada, "maegashira" of
the West camp, defeated Maedayama, "ozeki" of the East camp, on the third
day, October 9, of the sumo tournament now being held at the specially
constructed ring near Fukushima park, Osaka.
