East Defeats West In Sumo, 184 To 91
Iguchi Winner Over Hirata For Individual Honors In Students' Meet
NAKAMOZU STADIUM, July 19.- The East team outclassed
the West team by 184 points to 91 in the first East vs. West Students'
sumo tourney held on July 18 and 19, at the specially constructed ring
at Nakamozu on the Koya line of the Nankai electric railway.
The East team led the opponents by 110 to 55 at
the end of the third round on the first day, and continued strong in the
fourth and fifth rounds.
The individual honors were, however, won by Iguchi
of Kwansei Gakuin of the West team. He defeated Hirata of Nihon University
to win the individual title.
Sponsored by the All-Nippon Students' Sumo League,
the affair was supported by the Osaka Mainichi and the Tokyo Nichi Nichi.
Each team was represented by 60 grapplers, of whom
55 were regulars and 5 were substitutes.
