The 1st East vs. West students' sumo tourney, under the auspices of the All-Nippon Students' Sumo League, with the support of the Osaka Mainichi and the Tokyo Nichi Nichi, was opened at the specially constructed ring at Nakamozu on the Koya line of the Nankai railway on July 18 at 10 a.m.
    The affair, recognized by the Education Office, will last for two days.
    The photo shows Tadashi Ogachi of Takushoku University and captain of the East team taking the oath on behalf of all the contestants during the opening ceremony.
