Something Different in Rooters
The Kokugikan amphitheater
was treated to some real lively cheering on Saturday when a band of primary
school youngsters invaded the 4th story gallery there and mingled their
shrill screeches with the roar of adult crowds. Megaphones in hand, they
added novelty to the summer tourney which will enter its fourth day today.
Grand Champion Bites Sand

Thousands of spectators at the wrestling amphitheater
in Ryogoku went wild and cheered Futamiyama (left) of the west camp when
he defeated the Grand Champion (yokozuna) Minanogawa of the east camp Saturday
evening. Futamiyama has just been promoted to the ranking class this season
and, although one of many promising young wrestlers, no one had expected
he would be a match against the formidable foe. The picture shows a moment
before the Grand Champ was forced outside the ring. Futamiyama is one of
those being trained by the famous Grand Champ Futabayama of the west camp.
