Minanogawa Downed In 2nd Day's Upset

Rising Futamiyama Shows Prowess; 'Komusubi' Have Jinx Day

    Minanogawa, "yokozuna" and captain of the East team, went down in defeat before a fighting Futamiyama from Tatsunami Club, who was chosen from the "juryo" ranks and newly ranked in the senior group, in a big upset on the second day of the summer main sumo tourney at the Kokugikan, Tokyo, on May 10.
    It was a jinx day for grapplers of the "komusubi" rank. Kasagiyama, "komusubi" of the West team, who lost on the first day, was again defeated on the second day by tricky Asahikawa, while Tamanoumi, "komusubi" of the West team, was vanquished by Sakuranishiki.
    In another upset, Hishuzan, "sekiwake" of the East team, was toppled by Matsuuragata.
    Adding one more point on the second day, the East team lead by 6 points, 30 to 24, in the senior inter-team matches at the end of that day.
