KASAGIYAMA GIVES TALK TO STUDENTS ON SUMO

Okuma Memorial Hall at Waseda Filled to Capacity With Eager Audience

The Vast Okuma Memorial Hall at Waseda University was filled to capacity by eager students, Wednesday afternoon, who attentively listened to a talk on the spirit of sumo given by Kasagiyama, wrestler of the first rank and also a graduate of the university, says the Asahi.
Beginning his talk by saying that sumo is a primitive expression of the strife consciousness of mankind, Kasagiyama continued his explanation by giving illustrations taken from past histories of the Occident and Orient. The talk, which lasted one full hour and explained the history of sumo and its relations with the Japanese spirit, gave a general conception of the true figure and position of sumo wrestlers to the young audience.
During the talk, the grand champion Minanogawa, appeared in the auditorium, dressed in a gray suit. Although his application to be permitted as a special student at the university was refused by the school authorities, Minanogawa has asked for special permission to attend the special lectures as his fervor for learning could not be abated. He was seen sitting quietly during the talk and at times nodding his head in affirmative of the given opinions by his fellow wrestler.
