To Show Sumo

Diplomats And Writers To Be Invited

The Board of Information has decided to invite foreign diplomatic envoys and foreign correspondents to the summer series of Nippon professional "sumo" bouts at the Kokugikan arena in Ryogoku, Tokyo, early in May.
In its efforts to make Nippon better known the board recently invited diplomats and correspondents to "An Evening of Japanese Music" in Tokyo.
Encouraged by the favorable results, the board has decided to introduce Nippon sumo this this time.
Dr. Nobumi Ito, president of the Board of Information, remarked: "There are numerous foreigners who have spent many years in in this country, but few have apparently grasped the real aspects and spirit of Nippon. In fact, when we invited diplomats and correspondents to "An Evening of Japanese Music" recently, many were agreeably surprised to find that such good music exists over here.
"We now want to show them Nippon's national spirit through the medium of sumo."
