Information Board Decides Sport Best Way to Introduce Japan's Spirit

    Foreign diplomats and correspondents in Japan will be invited to the summer sumo tournament in May at the Ryogoku Amphitheater, by Nobumi Ito, president of the Board of Information, say the Nichi Nichi.
    Preparations for the invitation are being undertaken after consultation with the Dai Nippon Sumo Association. It is expected that the true measure of this country will be introduced to foreigners through the spirit maintained throughout the matches of the national sport,
    "There are only a few foreigners who have lived in the country for several years, who have succeeded in grasping the fundamental aspects of Japan", said Mr. Ito in an interview with the Nichi Nichi Thursday. "The sincere attitude of sumo wrestlers competing with each other in the arena in the spirit of fine play and the impressive exhibition of their endeavors, truly discloses the intrinsic essence of Japan. It also fully depicts the Japanese spirit wherein there is not an element of falseness. With the object of introducing the sincere Japanese spirit among the foreign diplomats and correspondents and to acquire their understanding, I am preparing to invite them to the summer sumo tournament."
