Sumo Main Tourney Commences Today

Time Honored Ring Festival Is Held On Thursday; Curtain Rises

    The 15 day January main tourney of the Dai Nippon Professional Sumo Association will open on January 10 at the Kokugikan, Ryogoku, Tokyo.
 On January 9, the time honored ring festival was observed at 10 a.m. in the presence of Admiral Isamu Takeshita, president, and other executive officials of the association.
    At 2 p.m. all the grapplers on the roster of the association, attired in ceremonial dress, gathered at the headquarters of the association, before whom President Takeshita delivered an address.
    The preliminary matches for the beginnings were started at 3 p.m.
    Enthusiastic fans began gathering before the ticket booths from about 6 a.m., one day before the opening of the tourney, seeking to get 50 sen tickets for the opening. The admission fee on the first day is 50 sen for most of the seats.
