Special Sumo Meet Is Billed On Sunday
20 Secondary Schools To Vie In Invitation Tourney At Kashihara
One week after the invitation intercollegiate sumo
tourney, dedicated to the Kashihara Shrine in commemoration of the 2,600th
anniversary of the Empire founding, another dedicatory school meet, will
be held on Sunday, May 26, at the specially constructed ring in the outer
precincts of the Kashihara Shrine.
As the invitation intercollegiate meet, the coming
tourney is sponsored by the Osaka Mainichi and the Tokyo Nichi Nichi with
the support of the Nippon Students' Sumo Federation.
The tourney will be contested by 20 schools chosen
from various parts of the country by the Nippon Students' Sumo Federation.
Four round preliminaries will be held foe each of the contesting
teams and on the basis of the winning percentage, four teams will be chosen
to vie for the championship.
Individual championship bouts will be held among
those making a clean sweep in the four round preliminary matches.
Each school will be represented by three grapplers.
