GRAND CHAMP LOSES AGAIN
Futabayama ,Thrown Fourth Time During Summer Sumo Tourney at Kokugikan
Tokyo, Monday, May 20, 1940

    Futabayama, Grand Champion of the East side, was defeated for the fourth time Sunday by Itsutsushima, sekiwake of the West side on the 11th day of the current 15-day summer tournament.
    Itsutsushima and Futabayama clinched as the bout started. While the grand champion was trying to push his opponent out of the ring. Itsutsushima seized Futabayama's left hand and executed a strong body throw. The grand champion sprawled on all fours on the ring for a neat victory for Itsutsushima. Except for Futabayama's defeat, there were no other upsets on the 11th day.
    Haguroyama, Champion of the East side, who carried Ayanobori on his belly out of the ring for a victory, will not appear for the rest of the tournament, having developed appendicitis soon after the bout.
    Giant Minanogawa, Grand Champion of the West side, had no difficulty in pushing Oshio out of the ring. The West side leads the East in the number of victories of first grade wrestlers by 145 to 109.
