Futabayama Downed

    Hishuzan, fighting "maegashira" of the dewanoumi club, scored a brilliant victory over Futabayama, "yokozuna", on the 10th day of the summer main sumo tourney at the Kokugikan, Tokyo.
    Haguroyama, "ozeki" and Nayoroiwa, "sekiwake", from the same club as Futabayama, also went down in defeat, the former losing to Kasagiyama and the latter to Dewaminato.
    The West team further widened the margin by 35 points, making the score 133 to 98.

16 Schools Entered In Invitation Tourney At Shrine

    With the participation of 16 schools, eight each from Kanto and Kansai, an invitational intercollegiate sumo tourney dedicated to the Kashihara Shrine in commemoration of the 26th centenary of the founding of the Empire will be held on Sunday, May 19, beginning 9.40 a.m. at the sumo ring on the outer precincts of the Kashihara Shrine.
    Sponsored by the Osaka Mainichi, the affair is supported by the All-Nippon Students' Sumo Federation.
    The 16 contesting teams are:
Kanto: Senshu, Chuo, Takushoku, Keio, Hosei, Meiji, Nihon and Rikkyo.
Kansai: Ritsumaikan, Nagoya Higher Commercial, Osaka Higher Medical, Kandai, Doshisha, Doshisha Higher Commercial, Nichidai Semmonbu and Kwansei Gakuin,
    Listing the schools from Kanto as the East team and those from Kansai as the West team, four round preliminaries will be held for each of the contesting teams and, on the basis of the winning percentage, four teams will be chosen to vie in the tournament.
    Individual tourneys will also be held.
