MINANOGAWA AGAIN DEFEATED
Tsurugamine Upsets Grand Champion for 3rd Time in Sumo Meet
Tokyo, Thursday, May 17, 1940

Grand Champion Minanogawa of the West side was defeated by Tsurugamine for the third time in the present 15-day summer sumo tournament at the Kokugikan bowl Wednesday, the seventh day.
Their bout started with both gripping each other's loincloth with their left hands. After Minanogawa's futile attempt at a body throw, Tsurugamine rallied and pushed his giant opponent out of the ring by applying all his weight.

Tamanoumi, who ranks fourth in the East side and who had suffered six consecutive defeats in the present tourney, won his first victory Wednesday, his opponent being Taikyuzan.
