FIRST RANKERS IN SUMO UPSET
3 'Maegashira' Defeated; Near Riot Follows Bout; Grand Champions Win

    The string of straight victories of all first ranking Sumo champions except Akinoumi and Itsutsushima, ended Monday during fifth day bouts of the summer Sumo championship tournament at the Kokugikan Bowl, Ryogoku.
    Matsunosato, Jintozan and Ryogoku, all "maegashira" or fourth rank from than of grand champion, of the West Side, suffered their first defeats.
    A near riot followed a bout between Kashimanada, West side "maegashira," and Ohshio, East sider of similar rank, when the two fell practically simultaneously to the sand and the referee ruled Ohshio the victor.
    All members of the examining board clambered into the ring, to study validity of the decision, fellow wrestlers split in their opinions and spectators followed suit. After 20 minutes of argument, it was decided to re-stage the match and Kashimanada won easily.
    Grand Champions Futabayama and Minanogawa of the East and West sides, respectively, crushed their opponents, as scheduled.
    The bowl was filled by 8 a.m. despite rainy weather. Results of principal bouts after the intermission follow:
