WRESTLER RAISES STATUE

Figure of Deity Jizo Constructed in Honor of Dead Soldier

    A statue of the Buddist deity Jizo has been erected by Mr. Kinzaburo Totani, a retired wrestler, beside his apartment house in Wada Hommachi, Suginami Ward here, in honor of Mr. Toyosaku Muraji, the wrestler's primary school teacher in Niigata Prefecture, according to the Hochi, Mr. Muraji died on the China front some time ago while on duty as a private.
    General Iwane Matsui, who is devoting the rest of his life to Buddhist services for dead soldiers in a temple near Atami, is scheduled to officiate at the dedication ceremony, to be held today.
    Jizo is said to be the guardian deity of children and the god for pregnant women. Mr. Totani used to be known as Shimadagawa in the wrestling ring.

    The annual conscription examinations for Tokyo Prefecture started at 5 o'clock yesterday morning, when scores of young men assembled as the Kojimachi, Nakano and Hongo ward offices to have their chests thumped, their hearts listened to and their eyelids peeled back and to submit to other tests of physical fitness. Among the conscripts was Mr. Michihiko Saito, towering, broad-beamed sumo wrestler.
