Pro Sumo Tourney Commences Today
13-Day Program Is To Raise Funds For Building Hall For War Wounded
The Kansai tourney of the Japan Professional Sumo
Association to raise funds for the construction of the OsakaShoi Gunjin
Kaikan (Osaka war veterans' hall) will be held for 13 days beginning March
15 at the specially constructed ring south of Tamaebashi, Kita-ku, Osaka.
Prior to the opening of the tourney, the time-honored
arena festival was held on March 14, at 11 a.m. in the presence of leading
officials of the association, fans, and those concerned with the construction
of the war veterans' hall.
Included among those listed to take part in the
regular program are Futabayama and Minanogawa, both holding the title of
"Yokozuna", Haguroyama, "Ozeki", Akinoumi, "Sekiwake", and many other leading
grapplers.
The leading bouts on the first day include:
