HAGUROYAMA WEDS DAUGHTER OF HIS TEACHER

Champion Haguroyama, 26, who broke all existing records in professional sumo by the speed of his promotion, becoming an "ohzeki" or champion in five years since he made his first public appearance in the ring, won further honors Wednesday. He was married to Miss Kinuyo Takagi, 24, the second daughter of his teacher, whose professional name is Tachinami.
It is interesting that Haguroyama, whose real name is Masashi Kobayashi, was a helper in a bathhouse near the Kokugikan wrestling bowl at Ryogoku. Tachinami, a patron of the bathhouse, noticed his splendid physique and kept coaxing him to become a wrestler. Haguroyama refused and it was not until Tachinami had the young man's relatives in Niigata prefecture bring pressure upon him that he consented to try his fortune in the indigenous sport of the country. That was five years ago. Each tournament saw him promoted to a higher rank and the tourney last month saw him performing as a champion, a rank which nine out of ten wrestlers never reach. He has good prospects of becoming a grand champion in the next few years, a rank held by his elder stablemate, Futabayama.
Haguroyama and Miss Takagi were married at the Iidabashi Shrine at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The wedding reception was held at the Imperial Hotel at 6 p.m. the same day. Including the go-betweens, Mr. And Mrs. Seijoro Kato, and General Soroko Suzuki, president of the Haguroyama Patrons' Club, Admiral Isamu Takeshita, president of the Japan Sumo Association, Kenkichi Yoshizawa, former Foreign Minister, and officials of the Sumo Association and leading wrestlers, some 250 persons attended the reception.
Following the reception, the newly-weds left Tokyo Station at 10.25 p.m. for a short honeymoon to Atami.
