Sumo Fans Will Jam Kokugikan For Meet

Morioka Of Shizuoka Waits At Gate From Early On May 10

    With a capacity crowd expected to jam the arena to the doors, the annual main summer tourney of the Japan Professional Sumo Association will get under way on Thursday, May 11, at the Kokugikan, Ryogoku, Tokyo.
    With great chances made in the rankings, the tourney will be the object of great interest by sports fans.
    The Osaka Mainichi-Tokyo Nichi Nichi “outstanding match trophy,” given to the winner of the day's most closely matched contest in the opinion of experts, will go to the victor of the Haguroyama-Ayanobori bout.
    Other outstanding bouts will pit Futabayama with Banjaku, Minanogawa with Yamatonishiki, Maedayama with Ryogoku, Kagamiiwa with Ryuozan and Tamanoumi with Kasagiyama.

Ceremony Is Observed

    The Dohyosai ceremony was solemnly observed at the Kokugikan arena at Ryogoku, Tokyo, on wednesday, May 10, from 10 a.m.
    Among those present were Admiral Isamu Takeshita, new president of the Japan Professional Sumo Association, and other officials of the organization, Shonosuke Kimura presiding over the function.
    Eager to witness the first-day bouts, Tokutaro Morioka, 65, who came all the way from Imaharu, Shikoku Island, as a zealous fan of Maedayama, occupied the entrance to the arena on Wednesday, May 10, at 6 a.m.
