Beating Up Interest in Sumo
Conforming to traditional ceremony, the semi-annual
spring sumo wrestling tournament was announced yesterday by a group of
attendants of the Kokugikan, the wrestling amphitheater in Ryogoku. After
a ceremony inside the arena, the group went about the streets beating drums
and announcing in stentorian tones that the contests will open today. This
picture was taken as the group passed under on arch erected in front of
the Kokugikan.
