Summer Main Tourney To Start On Thursday At Kokugikan

    The summer main tourney of the Japan Professional Sumo Association will open on Thursday, May 11, to continue for 15 days, as the Kokugikan, Ryogoku, Tokyo.
    The matchings on the opening day will be announced on Thursday.
    The new rankings have been announced by the association, with Futabayama, holder of the title of “Yokozuna”, occupying the top position in the East senior group, and Minanogawa, another “Yokozuna” heading the West senior group.
    Dewaminato, who won the honor of being the champion of the January tourney, making a clean sweep in his 13 matches, has been promoted to the rank of “Komusubi” in the West senior group from the second lowest “Maegashira” rank of the same group. This meant a jump by 16 places.
    Hishuzan, who won 12 out of 13 matches, was ranked next to Dewaminato as the head “Maegashira” grappler of the West senior group.

The high ranked grapplers are:

East Senior Group
Yokozuna – Futabayama
Ozeki – Maedayama
Sekiwake – Haguroyama
Komusubi – Tamanoumi
Maegashira – Kashimanada

West Senior Group
Yokozuna – Minanogawa
Ozeki – Kagamiiwa
Sekiwake – Nayoroiwa
Komusubi – Dewaminato
Maegashira – Hishuzan.
