Sumo Tournament Extended to 15 Days
The professional sumo (Japanese wrestling) tournaments
staged annually in January and May at the Kokugikan bowl at Ryogoku, Tokyo,
will be held for 15 days or an extension for two days beginning the tourney
in May, it was formally announced by the Japan Sumo Federation Wednesday
night.
Action was taken by the Association with the view
to giving more Tokyo residents a chance to see the matches.
The tourney was extended to 13 days from 11 days
in 1937 because of popular demand.
