Pro Sumo Wrestlers Win Even At Baseball

‘Ozeki’ Maedayama Catches His Team To Victory 14-8 Over Narumi

NAGOYA, Feb. 18 – A series of fine plays, hefty batting and refined base running characterised the baseball game played yesterday between the Narumi club, composed of several former star secondary school players, and the Hamakawa team, an aggregation of professional sumo grapplers, at the Narumi baseball stadium here.
The game was arranged on the challenge of the sumo team, a combined force of the Maedayama nine and the Shachinosato squad, availing themselves of the one day off before the opening of the Nagoya sumo tourney here today.
By amassing runs in the early stage of the tilt, the grapplers won a splendid 14 to 8 victory before a large crowd.
Maedayama, grappler holding the rank of “Ozeki”, showed that he is skilled not only in the ring art but in baseball as a catcher. Suwanobori, though still has a long way to go as a professional grappler, distinguished himself as a slugger with a circuit drive.
