DEWAMINATO KEEPS WINNING; FUTABAYAMA IS BACK IN FORM
Dewaminato yet is to taste defeat in the current
13-day Sumo tournament at the Kokugikan bowl at Ryogoku. Before another
packed house Thursday in the eighth day's bouts, he threw Shachinosato,
reputed the handsomest of all competing wrestlers, with a beautiful body
with clever use of his arms.
Grand Champion Futabayama apparently is back in
form for he triumphed over Banjaku, he of the great protruding belly, for
his second straight win after his continuos setbacks on Sunday, Monday
and Tuesday to the consternation of his supporters. No doubt his doctors
advice that there was nothing wrong with him physically and that it was
only a case of nerves has helped him considerably.
MINANOGAWA WINS
Grand Champion Minanogawa, who suffered his first defeat
on Wednesday at the hands of Tamanoumi, had little trouble disposing of
Ayanobori, who has fallen into a slump.
Champion Kagamiiwa, near 40 ad the oldest among
the contestants, won a scintillating victory by defeating Nayoroiwa, considered
a coming grand champion, in a humdinger of a match. They each grasped each
other on the girdle with their left arms. On equal terms, Nayoroiwa started
pushing and forced Kagamiiwa to the edge of the ring. The latter effected
a turn to maneuver himself out of danger and turned the tables on his opponent
by shoving him bout of the ring.
Champion Mayedayama registered his sixth victory
out of eight starts by proving too strong for Akinoumi, the stalwart that
had stopped Futabayama's winning streak at 69. Akinoumi started off auspiciously
by thrusting his left arm through Mayedayama's defense for a firm grip
on the latter's girdle. But Mayedayama in turn grasped Akinoumi's girdle
with his right arm from above, and began a drive that crushed Akinoumi
outside the ring.
In what was a major surprise, the up and coming
Hishuzan outpushed Tamanoumi for his seventh victory.
HAGUROYAMA WINS
Haguroyama, stable-mate of Futabayama, impressed the
spectators with his powerful arms in his victory over Kasagiyama, former
Waseda University student. No sooner had they stood up than Haguroyama
grasped Kasagiyama's girdle from the front, his favorite hold. Kasagiyama
attempted to break this hold, but Haguroyama began charging even more furiously.
Then he attempted a body throw. Kasagiyama checked this but lost his balance
and Haguroyama with one push with his powerful right arm, sent Kasagiyama
sprawling outside the ring.
