NOTHING WRONG PHYSICALLY
Grand Sumo Champion Futabayama leaving after his medical
examination Wednesday, pronounced fit and well. His three successive defeats
on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, after a winning streak that stretched to
69, worried his admirers who prevailed on him to see a doctor. Futabayama
regained his winning stride on Wednesday afternoon.
DEWAMINATO ONLY UNDEFEATED CONTESTANT IN SUMO TOURNEY
Dewaminato, once high up in the ranks but now far
down the list of the first ranking wrestlers, won his seventh straight
victory Wednesday afternoon to be the only undefeated contestant in the
13-day Sumo tournament at the Kokugikan bowl at Ryogoku. His victim was
the tough Tatekabuto.
FUTABAYAMA WINS
Grand Champion Futabayama, who has lost three days in
a row, stepped back into the winning column but only after a tough match
with Kasagiyama, former Waseda University student. Twice the latter charged
and forced Futabayama to the edge of the ring, but the latter checked the
drives and finally attempted a body throw which sent Kasagiyama down on
to the sand.
One of the best matches of the day was that between
Nayoroiwa, stable-mate of Futabayama, and Akinoumi, who stopped Futabayama's
winning streak over the past three years at 69 on Sunday. Akinoumi was
the aggressor and nearly threw Nayoroiwa with a body throw but the latter
remained on his feet, although he almost went over. Knowing his disadvantage
if the match should not be over in quick time, Akinoumi began pushing.
At this juncture, Nayoroiwa resorted to a body throw and succeeded.
SEVENTH FOR HAGUROYAMA
Haguroyama, another stable-mate of Futabayama, won his
fifth victory out of seven bouts by proving too strong for Ayanobori. The
latter devoted too much attention in slipping his right arm through Haguroyama's
defense.
