SUMO PENNANT GOES TO WEST

Tochigiyama Remains Only Undefeated Wrestler In Spring Tourney

The Spring wrestling season in Tokyo ended successfully last night with the West capturing the championship pennant of the season. Nishinoumi, the extra champion of the West, was given one of the greatest ovation accorded to any wrestler recently when he, representing the West, stepped into the ring and received the championship pennant last night.
Tochigiyama, the extra champion of the East, who has tussled through the eleven days' tournament without any defeat, was given a medal and his picture will be hung in the Ryogoku stadium beside the champions of the past.
Dewagatake, the giant wrestler, ended a good season having lost only three times. When the summer sumo tournament begins here in May Dewagatake will most likely know a better record He has strength which when used wisely can make him champion in no time.
Tsurugahama, once the greatest wrestler in Japan, has fallen tremendously in rank. In the tournament just past he chalked up only two victories, the rest resulting in defeats with the exception of one draw. His sumo days are over.
When the wrestlers return to the Capital four months later there will unquestionably be a great change their ranking. Like boxing, the heights of sumo champions bloom in one night and are lost to the ken of the general public the following morning.
