WRESTLING WILL COMMENCE TODAY

Champions Of East And West Will Struggle For High Honours In Arena

The annual New Year wrestling matches at Ryogoku in the amphitheatre on the banks for the Sumida will be begun to-day for 11 days. One of the striking features of this season will be the appearance of Onosato, a new yokozuna or wrestling ace of the East camp, with the smallest stature of all the champions, but on account of illness he may not be able to appear on the arena during the series. A match between Dewagatake and Asahibiki will be a thrilling game to-day, worthy of excitement so much so that cushions or even fire-boxes may be thrown over to the arena by fans. Dewa is 6.4 feet high and weighs 500 pounds and is said to be the tallest champion that has ever gone to the series. Asahibiki is the veteran wrestler and will try hard  not to give any chance to the newcomer.

Use Amplifiers

The strength of the East and West camps for this year is almost equal and it promises exciting games. It has been a custom to make the winning camp the East and the defeated the West. The East camp of this year was victorious in the last series.
Amplifiers will be used first this time to report the games to the audience who naturally want to know more then the simple scores. Bands will add to the attraction of the ground, playing selections in the intervals.
