The Osaka Mainichi, Thursday 18th January 1923 (Page 2)

From the Editors' Desk

Six of the leading Inspector Wrestlers of the Tokyo Wrestlers Association who are standing the worst attacks by the champions and lessor stars today, 13 years ago were the foremost leaders attacking the association directors when making demands similar to those they themselves now refuse to grant. A lapse of 12 years has changed them from Labour to Capital !

Wrestlers' Dispute Submitted to Police By Both Parties (Page 3)

The pending dispute between the directors and wrestlers of the Tokyo Wrestling Association, on January 16, was submitted to the superintendent General of the Metropolitan Police for settlement. Two wrestlers, Yahazuyama and Tachihikari, representing their fellow wrestlers, accompanied by Mr. Kintaro Horiguchi, president of the Electrolysis Industrial Corporation, went to the Metropolitan Police Board on the same day and tendered a request to the Superintendent General for mediation in their dispute. They acted on the advice Police-Superintendent Suzuki, chief of the Aioi police station.

Official Mediation Sought

A similar request was tendered to the police chief of Tokyo from the representative directors of the Tokyo Wrestling Association, acting on police advice. This step is understood to have been taken, in consequence of the unsuccessful result of mediation, made by the "yokozuna" wrestlers, Onishiki and Tochigiyama, who are said to have maintained a neutral attitude.
In an interview, the Superintendent General of Metropolitan Police said that the trouble among the Tokyo wrestlers can not unconditionally be settled. He is resolved to make an effort for settling the matter, under certain conditions, possibly reasonable ones to either party, he added.

Stick to 11 Demands

Replying to the advice by the mediating super-champions to reconsider the matter, the striking champions asserted at 9 a.m., January 16, through Referees Yodayu and Yonokichi, that they would not retrench a single point on the original 11 demands. It is thought that the champions are awaiting arbitration from men of better social standing than super-champions and first-grade champions.

Police to Mediate

The Superintendent General of the Metropolitan Police Akaike has at last taken a hand in the wrestling disputes officially, and summoned Inspectors Dewanoumi, Ikadzuchi, Idzutsu, and Director Kasugano to the Metropolitan Police Board at 11.30 a.m., January 16, and made inquiries. This was the direct result of the appeal of champions on the preceding night, expressing their willingness to reach an agreement. It is believed that the delegates of champions will also be summoned.
