TOCHIGIYAMA, CHAMPION WRESTLER, DEFEATED

Greatly to the surprise and disappointment of his patrons the mighty Tochigiyama has fallen! He had carried all before him in the January wrestling meeting, but on Tuesday he was beaten by one of the older champions of the Western camp, Asashiwo. The result was something of a surprise, as Tochigiyama seemed to have the better of the match from the beginning, but he was hard pressed by Asashiwo and his right hand touched the sand, amid loud cries of "Banzai!" from the delighted western camp and the chagrin of his backers, who thought him invincible.
The only solace they had that day was in the victory of Tsushimanada over Chibagasaki, another young wrestler who leaped into prominence in January, when he defeated Onishiki.
