Wrestling Rules Are Strict in Japan; Derricks Barred From Matches

Do you know what is a "yokozuna?"
It's a wrestling champion in Japan.
And Japan has a new Yokozuna. His name is O.Nishiki.
The way he won his title is just as odd, compared to the American style
of wrestling, as the name of it and the name of the champ.
Over there two mat tournaments are held each year,
in Tokyo and Osaka. Teams composed of the best wrestlers the east and west
compete.
As a bout starts, two wrestlers meet inside of a
circle marked on the ground in chalk. The "rassler" able to throw his opponent
to the ground or chuck him outside the circle, wins.
This chucking business is not a cinch, since most
Jap grapplers weigh between 250 and 300 pounds. When one of them is hoisted
into the air and heaved to the ground, the earth trembles.
The rules of the game are very strict. Derricks,
by which a gigantic Nipponese might be hoisted from the mat and dropped
into the clear, are barred.
O.Nishiki is a bearcat. He weighs 275 and in the
tournament in which he won his title, chucked nine opponents out of the
circle.
