The ceremony of conferring the rank of Yokozuna on the two famous wrestlers, Hitachiyama and Umegatani, by Mr Yoshida, Kumamoto, whose family stands at the head of the wrestling world, took place on Sunday before the shrine of a Deity of wrestling, within the compound of Mr Yoshida's residence. The two champions wore the dress - or undress - usual in the sawdust arena and received the ornamental rope. (yokozuna) from Mr Yoshida. Then they indulged in an exhibition bout with two other wrestlers, and a dinner followed at Mr Yoshida's residence.
