INTER-CITY WRESTLING MATCHES

Philistine Osaka and intellectual Tokyo are now being pitted against each other, and the former is being worsted pitilessly. We refer to the wrestling matches now going on in the southern city between the ring of Tokyo and that of Osaka. The scores of these rival parties make singular reading. Out of the orthodox limit of ten days' performances, five days had already elapsed on Monday. During those first five days the Tokyo ring scored 108 points against 36 of the other. Further, the former could boast of eight wrestlers who had been victorious in every contest from the beginning, but the record of not even one Osaka champion is free of one or more black dots of defeat. Such a striking contrast between the two rival parties can not be accidental, and the comparison between the physique of the two parties given by the Jiji supplies a convincing explanation on this point. The measurement taken by fifteen first class wrestlers of Osaka and sixteen wrestlers of Tokyo gives the following average as to age, stature, weight, etc.

The measurement for the Tokyo wrestlers was taken in January of last year while that of the Osaka people was taken this year. The Tokyo men might make a far better show if their measurement were taken now.
