Ekoin News

On Sunday Wakaminato defeated Umegatani, thus scoring a great success wonder in the record of the Ekoin Ring. Umegatani had been victorious since the beginning of the matches and was expected to be so at all through the season, and Wakaminato was the last who any one hoped would get the victory over him. It was Umegatani therefore who rushed upon his antagonist with blinding swiftness at the beginning of the contest and who the next moment flew across the ring at a quick swing from Wakaminato, who hurled his body, weighing 320 lbs, into the arena. It was a long time before the applause for Wakaminato subsided into the general babbling of the admiring spectators.

It is with regret that we learn that Hitachiyama, one of our greatest wrestlers, who, having been taken ill, did not appear on the ring on the 7th day of the present Ekoh-in performance, will not be able to again take an active part in the proceedings during this season. The poor wrestler was to have gone to Oharai on Sunday for a change of air. His disease is in all probability intestinal catarrh but the wrestler himself fears that it may be beri beri.
