Japanese Wrestlers and their Physical Measurements.

    Taking advantage of the fine condition of the wrestlers in full preparation for the spring matches, the Jiji Shimpo has, with the help of Dr Okamoto, Director of the Nihonbashi Hospital, obtained the physical measurements of the front rank fighters. We reproduce below only a few of the more prominent ones.

    Of these, the most remarkable case of corpulence and general physical gain is young Umenotani, who has added, during the last three years, 5 kwan, or a little over 40 pounds to his weight., 8.5 sun to his chest girth, 11.50 cub, centim. to his lung capacity, 20 kilo. to his grip, and 1.3 sun to the girth of his upper arm. The wrestler with the most brilliant record is Hitachiyama, who gained in the last spring match the Jiji Shimpo's ornamental apron for scoring the largest number of victories. He has gained in a year 2.870 kwan in weight, and 27 kilo. in grip. His gigantic and equally powerful rival Ozutsu, has gained, in the same period of time, 2.420 kwamme in weight, and 18 kilo. in grip.
