Wrestling Matches.

The New Year's wrestling matches will commence on the 8th inst. at the usual ring on the premises of the Eko-in, Ryogoku.

With its wonted enterprise, the Jiji announces that it will present a kesho-mawashi specially made for the purpose to the wrestler scoring highest record during the ten days performance. The kesho-mawashi, we may explain, is an ornamental apron of costly fabric worn by wrestlers over their knees, when they perform the ceremony of dohyo-iri. The Jiji's prize has been made to its special order by the Mitsui Drygoods store, and represents, in embroidery; the figures of two dragons contesting for a ball of gems. It is now on show at the said store. We do not know, how much this piece cost the Jiji, but usually a kesho-mawashi requires an outlay of 300 to 500 yen.
